Characteristics and origin

The pink color of tourmaline is generally linked to manganese. Deep red gem-quality stones may be called rubellites, but not every pink tourmaline necessarily falls under this designation. Brazil, Mozambique, Madagascar, Nigeria and Afghanistan are known sources.
